Management Training Programmes - Oracle

Situation/Need

Oracle is the world’s second largest software organisation. The company has gone through significant changes to their business which has demanded an equally significant shift in skills and behaviours. The need was for an EMEA wide management development programme that would support this development need.

Approach/Solution

 DDA Consulting was asked to support Oracle in bringing about these changes in behaviour. Over the last ten years we have partnered Oracle as one of their key providers of leadership and management learning solutions, throughout EMEA.

Originally designed in 2001, and delivered initially in UK, Sweden and Netherlands, we now provide Oracle’s flagship Leadership and Management Development programme, delivering in 19 different countries across EMEA in 2011. The programme is regularly reviewed, adapted and revised to address the changing needs of the business.

The programme consists of two four day modules. Module 1 has themes of 'Leadership, Teamwork and Influencing', while Module 2 covers 'Performance Management and Managing Change'. Each delegate completes a 360 degree feedback profile between the two modules. 1:1 coaching discussions with tutors take place on Module 2. A short work related activity is completed following Module 1 and reviewed on Module 2.
The style of both Modules is highly interacitve using practical indoor and outdoor high impact projects. Other support provided by DDA Consulting has included a wide range of team development initiatives helping leadership teams throughout the business increase their effectiveness and improve their performance. As an Approved Centre for the Chartered Management Institute, DDA Consulting have also provided coaching, as well as other development tools and activities, for managers and leaders wishing to obtain a professional qualification at level 5 in Management and Leadership or Coaching and Mentoring.

Results

The impact of the Management Development programme and a supporting individual contributor programme (‘Personal Leadership & Influence’) has been very significant. An independent evaluation of the programme carried out in 2010 reported exceptionally positive reactions from delegates and their managers. In interviews and focus groups participants discussed specific learnings and were able to give many examples of changed behaviour. Some results obtained, partly as a consequence of the Leadership and Management programmes, include:

  • Creation of a company-wide ‘One Oracle’ programme to encourage greater internal collaboration

  • Ratio of Applications to Database improved by a factor of 10

  • Over 50 acquisitions completed with increasing success

  • Almost 3,500 managers completed the leadership and management programme

  • Over 200 managers received CMI qualification in Management and Leadership

  • Regular achievement of Revenue targets

  • Improved retention of key staff.
